Is Security Still The Biggest Hurdle In Cloud Business Intelligence (BI) Implementation?
When it comes to the future of technology that contributes to the betterment of businesses, cloud computing cannot be overlooked for sure.
Big-shots like Amazon and Microsoft, are among the pioneers who plan the future of their businesses keeping Cloud Business Intelligence solutions as their prime focus.
But interestingly, the journey of these companies i.e. their transition to cloud-based Business Intelligence tools has been strewn with various hurdles.
What are the limitations or hurdles encountered in cloud computing?
Talking about cloud computing does not mean that one must overlook the aspects that have drawn major concern. Along with its many benefits, professionals are equally wary about the security and speed aspects of cloud-based BI solutions.

Are cloud platforms risky for businesses?
Keeping with the need of the hour, global enterprises are now welcoming the Cloud BI market whole-heartedly. According to a report released by the company Verizon, more and more companies with each passing day are considering putting their data on public cloud-based platforms, due to the ease of operations for both businesses as well as their customers. But there have been recent reports of security lapses that have occurred. In fact, almost 91% of cybersecurity professionals have expressed their deep concern over this breach of security that cloud platform entails. (Source)
The 2nd limitation found is security, as the servers and the security although in access of the company are often a target of hackers. While companies can easily restrict access to a particular hardware installation is it difficult to repeat the same process for a server located overseas.
Thus many companies often find themselves in turmoil when asked to choose between an on-premise BI solution and a cloud-based one. So to strike a balance, most of them offer both of these solutions.

What is the concern regarding data speed?
Earlier companies used to worry about tons of inaccessible data arising mostly from internet-connected appliances. It was all due to smartphone users’ behavior spread all over the world. But the path cloud computing has to traverse to efficiently process this data is not at all smooth, for, the data generated globally is just too gigantic, sometimes reaching to more than a billion GBs i.e. “exabytes”.
Uploading this colossal amount of data from an on-premise application via a standard internet connection, to cloud–based business intelligence architecture is next to impossible. However, the good news is that a few software vendors are trying to pace up the data transfer speeds with technology solutions that are still undergoing development. So we can look forward to overcoming this hurdle as well.
Conclusion
Currently, most business intelligence service providers offer premium deployment services that take care of two factors, business intelligence security, and data transfer speeds.
The ways of implementing Business Intelligence in the cloud might vary from company to company. But overall the aim remains the same which includes cost savings, speeding up time into the market, enabling newer business opportunities and coming up with more innovative business intelligence trends.
