Machine learning and deep learning are different from other technology waves of the recent past. As a child we learned new concepts by listening to the sentence descriptions. We learned by observing the visual world. Grasping new things by listening, seeing and recognizing is the most important cognitive function we have. Initially it takes time for a child to learn new concepts. However, as the knowledge builds up we correlate the information gathered over time. We unconsciously build models in our mind with those information. In order to lead the future we will have to solve the problem of intelligence to seize that opportunity.
Human Intelligence is like a Skyscraper
This structure is built with brain based algorithms, or rules that process information. This is similar to the floors of building layered upon and interacting with each other. The hype around AI, Machine learning and deep learning are intimidating the developer community.
Combination of Science and Engineering
This combination of data, statistics, mathematics, algorithms and programming is astounding. Even to those self taught developers like me who take pride in embracing any new technology.
When researchers used a combination of science and engineering, it led to Key breakthrough. Using brain based algorithms, engineers have improved the ability of self-driving cars to process their environments safely and efficiently. Similarly, Facebook uses these visual recognition algorithms. It recognize and tag friends in photos even faster than you can.
Understanding and imitating the visual perception in humans gave rise to algorithms for deep learning. Sky is the limit to what we can achieve from a understanding of various layers of intelligence.
Cognitive Artificial Intelligence
CAI is a new perspective in Artificial Intelligence (AI) aimed to emulate how human brain works in capturing knowledge. Knowledge which grows over time in human brain makes them intelligent. Cognitive Computing combines artificial intelligence, parallel and massive computing technologies on data.
Artificial General Intelligence
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) – this is an upcoming and futuristic term applied to the potential for new generation of machines and systems. Systems which “successfully complete any intellectual task that a human being can.” Also known as “strong AI,” “super-intelligent AI” and “full AI”. The definition typically encompasses powers of intuition, emotion and aesthetic discernment – or, in a single word it’s called, consciousness.
The race is ON
Time is ticking to see if old school forward engineering is better or reverse engineering. Machine learning and deep learning is the way to future. This is no science fiction. This is real and being used in many upcoming applications like BONZO. A classic example of conversational bot for business reporting. Economy will be led by the winner of this race…
